That's right, now you can request any type of public information from the authorities through “X”, formerly known as Twitter, and they have an obligation to respond to you.
On Friday, January 26, several were published in the Official Gazette of the Federation Jurisprudence in which it was determined that the Right of Request can be exercised through the “X” platform, and you may ask yourself, what is this right? Well, the Right of Petition, enshrined in Article 8 of our Federal Constitution, is that by which citizens are empowered to request or request any type of information from the government, and the latter must give us an answer in a short period of time.
Of course, like any human right, this has its scope and limitations, so we can only request public information, as long as we do so in writing, in a peaceful and respectful manner.
But hey, what do these jurisprudences tell us? Basically, they tell us that if an authority institutionally enabled the use of social networks to capture requests and respond to them, then it is a ideal environment to exercise the right of request, all the more so when through direct messages on the platform you can maintain constant communication and even attach images and documents.
These criteria were born as a result of an amparo lawsuit in which a person made several requests to a City Council via “X”, in particular, a request for information, a complaint and a request to carry out public works, which were not answered, so that the violation of the right of petition was updated and, therefore, the amparo judgment was made appropriate.
All of the above is a clear example of how law and, specifically, human rights, evolve; that is why we must always be aware and at the forefront of the legal changes and advances that are taking place in our country, because we could be ignoring many things that directly affect us in our lives, for better or for worse.
